Incorporated in 1953 and featuring just over 600 homes, St. Regis Park gives newcomers everything that they would expect from an established residential community of quiet streets and friendly neighbors. As a 4th class city it has control over development and zoning, which has helped it to keep its character throughout the years by giving due attention to building codes, regulations, and parking. The City of St. Regis levies taxes that provide services such as road and streetlight maintenance, salting and snow removal, and enhanced security among other things.
Those living in St. Regis would be quick to point out just how convenient life can be thanks to a surplus of dining, shopping, and other services in the area. Nearby shopping options include the Louisville area’s two most popular malls—Oxmoor Center and Mall St. Matthews. Featuring over 150 stores between them, you’ll find everything from Ann Taylor to Zales, not to mention the usual wide variety of casual dining options. Other popular areas for shopping and dining like downtown Louisville, Bardstown Road, Frankfort Avenue, and The Paddock are all within an approximately 20-minute drive or less thanks to two nearby interstates.
Anchoring the community are two landmarks located on either end of the neighborhood. On the northside is Ascension School, a private Catholic elementary (K-8) school known for its advanced technologies in the classroom and for having an eye-popping 98% of its graduates seek post-secondary study (32% above the national average). St. Regis Park also offers a variety of public school options as part of JCPS Cluster 13, including St. Matthews Elementary and Bloom Elementary, two highly-rated schools.
The southern limit of St. Regis is defined by Des Pres Park, one of the area’s most charming outdoor spaces. While not the biggest or the newest park in Louisville, it has long held a special place in locals’ hearts due to its laidback feel, sparse crowd, and mostly shaded half-mile walking/jogging trail. The 27-acre park also features a full playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, ballfield, picnic shelter, and plentiful benches. The St. Regis Park City Council currently hosts free Wednesday night outdoor movies and kids’ activities there from mid-May through early October, cementing its spot as a neighborhood favorite.
